Chiang Mai jolted by minor quake

CHIANG MAI (THAILAND), May 18 (TNA) - The Meteorological Department reported that a minor earthquake jolted Thailand's northern Chiang Mai Province early on Friday morning, but there have been no reports of any casualty or damage. The Meteorological Department said that the mild 1.7-magnitude tremor shook Chiang Mai's Nongharn locality in San Sai District at 1:21am. Komsan Suwan-ampa, chief of Chiang Mai's disaster prevention and mitigation office, told reporters that as the Thai North has been hit by some five minor quakes since early this year, Chiang Mai Governor M.L. Panadda Diskul has set May 29 for a meeting of local parties concerned to discuss measures on dealing with future tremors, covering those to ensure public safety. (TNA)
