Chana Power Plant in Thai South to be temporarily closed

SONGKHLA, THAILAND, June 12 (TNA) - The Chana Power Plant in Thailand’s southern Songkhla Province has been operating normally, before its temporary closure from June 13-July 10, 2014, when gas supply from the Malaysia-Thailand Joint Development Area (JDA) in the Gulf of Thailand will be suspended. Chana Power Plant staff members are performing their duties as usual on Thursday, the last day before the facility will completely stop its electricity generating service during the 28-day gas supply disruption from the JDA-A18 well for a maintenance by PTT Public Company Limited (PTT). The power production capacity in the Thai South will consequently drop by about 710 megawatts to 1,600 megawatts per day during the closure of the Chana Power Plant, while demand for electricity in the region is about 2,300–2,400 megawatts per day. The state-run Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) will, thus, supply electricity of 700-900 megawatts per day from the central region to meet the power demand in the Thai South, which is foreseen to sufficiently serve users in the region if all parties help save their power consumption during the 28-day gas suspension period.(TNA)
