Cambodians return to work in flood-receding Thailand
BANGKOK, November 25 (TNA) - Cambodian nationals are returning to work in Thailand, where widespread floods since late July have been receding.
A number of Cambodian workers have crossed the border into Aranyaprathet District of Thailand's eastern Sa Kaeo Province, for instance, to work at industrial plants whose representatives have picked up the Cambodian migrant workers at border immigration checkpoints to the contracted factories or firms in the country.
A Thai factory representative from Bangkok's suburban Pathum Thani Province said Cambodian workers would clean his factory; while another factory representative from Ongkarak District of Thailand's central Nakhon Nayok Province said his factory is accelerating its production to meet market demand in the wake of floods and is recruiting more workers from Cambodia to boost its production capacity.
In Bueng Kan Province of the Thai Northeast, local farmers are hiring Lao workers for their seasonal rice harvest, as each Thai worker now demands a 250-300 baht-wage per day for the job, excluding free meals and transport; while Lao workers each demand 200 baht a day. (TNA)
