Brown Hails Efforts Made by HH Sheikha Moza in Enabling Children to Receive Education

Doha, April 29 (QNA) -UN Special Envoy for Global Education Gordon Brown, has praised the big efforts being made by Sheikha Moza bint Nasser to empower the children who are deprived from their right to education via the initiative of "Teach A Child" which has been launched by HH in last November. Brown said the imitative has assisted more than 60 million children to receive a good education in some areas of the world, referring that it requires the doubling of efforts by various partners and stakeholders in order to complete the achievement made by HH in a short period of time. In his speech at the opening sitting of the high-level of the strategic meeting on ' Teach A Child' programme ,Brown spoke about the importance of the initiative to reach about 60 million children who are not enrolled in schools in the world. Those children deserve utmost concern during the upcoming period of two years and a half which requires work to meet the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) relating the comprehensive primary education, Brown said, adding that despite the results achieved in this domain, there is still a state of emergency in the education field. He stressed the necessity to adhere to the moral responsibility in providing basic education to children, calling on governments to invest in the education of children especially females to avert them human trafficking, sexual exploitation and forced marriage, pointing out that investment in basic education would contribute to the economic development and the upgrading of the health sector and other fields related to education. Brown said that the two-day meeting, which is being held in Doha, is very important for realizing its objectives of boosting cooperation and creating new partnerships between the 17 participating countries of which 70 percent of children are deprived from basic education.
