BRCS participates in IFRC regional meeting

Manama, Nov. 23 (BNA): Bahrain Red Crescent Society (BRCS) participated in the annual meeting of Social Gender and Diversity Network Officials for the Middle East and North Africa themed "Minimum Obligations towards Social Gender and Diversity in Contingency Cases Programming". The meeting was organized by the International Federation of RED Crescent and Red Cross Societies (IFRC). The Kingdom's participation in the meeting comes alongside with the following Arab countries: Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco and Qatar. Dr. Kawthar al-Eid, BRCS member in charge of social gender affairs, said the meeting focused on linking social gender with the principles of red crescent and red cross societies. The meeting also aimed to train the attendees on activity of analysis of needs, risk, various capacities and the four commitments, including dignity, safety, engagement and easy accessibility in the event of disaster and afterwards. She said the meeting asserted the importance of preventing familial violence based on social gender in programming and minimum modular commitments towards social gender and diversity in programming emergency cases. Some footages from the Haiti disaster were displayed to analyze the presence of social gender and diversity during the disaster. The meeting also reviewed the code of conduct and the protection of children. Dr. Kawthar al-Eid affirmed the Bahrain Red Crescent Society (BRCS)'s participation in the various social activities pertaining to social gender and fighting familial violence. The delegation also met the heads of working committees in the society to identify social gender and diversity and to benefit from the society's psychological support officer on how to conduct psychological support sessions for the targeted category regarding social gender and diversity and to document activities performed and sent them to the International Federation of Red Crescent and Red Cross Societies (IFRC) to publish them on its website.
