Border pass in Thai North closed after shooting incident
CHIANG RAI, January 28 (TNA) - Thai security forces have sealed off a border pass along the Thai-Myanmar border in the Thai North, after a shooting incident involving unidentified gunmen last Sunday, killing a Thai police captain and injuring another officer.
The armed group exchanged gunfire with Thai police in Mae Luang Village before fleeing across the border into Myanmar. Thai troops have subsequently erected barbwire and barriers at the border pass, opposite Myanmar’s Tachilek District, to enforce restrictions on all vehicles.
But for humanitarian reasons, Thai and Myanmar authorities have agreed to allow entry to only students. (TNA)
