Baku to host ‘Future Shorts’ pop-up film festival

Azerbaijan, Baku, March 30 / Trend Life, Vugar Imanov /
Baku will host spring pop-up film festival "Future Shorts", organized by YARAT! Non-Profit Organization.
The Future Shorts Festival is the biggest global pop-up film festival, announced its largest growth do date since 2003. The Future Shorts ambition and difference is to celebrate how our community and audience see the world and experience cinema - 'another Hollywood' - from the municipal buildings in post-communist Bucharest, Romania the army camps of Basra, Iraq to the cinemas of Austin, Texas and cinema shacks of Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. This is the next wave of filmmaking with 2-million audience.
Future Shorts programs are a short variant of modern art. Organizers are trying to follow a balance. So the programs consist of the latest festival hits, the works by the most famous filmmakers and animation films.
Nash Edgerton's Cannes and Sundance hit 'BEAR', BAFTA nominee Sam Taylor-Wood's short film 'I LOVE YOU MORE' and Spike Jonze's film are among them.
There is the next generation of film festivals from Kabul to Tokyo, from Cairo to Los Angeles, from Athens to Baku. The number of viewers around the world has tripled, accounting for more than 25,000 people in 55 countries and 150 cities after the repeated show of Future Shorts Festival and the Winter season in November 2011. The brightest short films are being demonstrated at all points of the largest network of international festivals and a strong community. The directors from all over the world are being introduced. The geography of Future Shorts festival covered 15 countries and 55 cities before the program was launched in the quarterly format.
Fabien Riggall, Founder and Creative Director Future Shorts said: "The Future Shorts festival will continue to allow people wherever they are to be able to host their own mini film festival whilst allowing filmmakers to reach the largest global audience for their work. With over 25,000 attending and 2 million watching the FS channel online, this is the next generation film festival where anyone can take part."
Kareem El Shafei, Cairo Future Shorts Festival screening partner, said: "Earlier in the year, the communal bond between Egyptians was tested when the police had withdrawn from the streets during the revolution and we were forced to camp out in the street to protect the neighbourhood from escaped prisoners. Future Shorts Festival came at a time when the sense of camaraderie was at its peak; taking part in bringing the community together for a night of art appreciation gives people the hope and strength to stay true to their dreams."
Seven classic, cult and award-winning short films will be screened at the Nizami Movie Theatre at 19:00 on April 14.
