Bahrain's labour rights progress praised

Marrakech, Dec. 11 (BNA): UK’s Minister of State for Middle East and North Africa Affairs, Alistair Burt, congratulated Bahrain on the successful free and transparent democratic elections that culminated in women and youth winning parliamentary and municipal seats.
The British minister unveiled his country’s heeding Bahrain’s measures aimed to ensure the legal status of expatriate workers and advanced schemes to boost labour rights humanitarian conditions at the workplace.
Bahrain has introduced the Flexi Work Permit System implemented by Bahrain’s Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) to ensure the legal residency and work status of expatriate workers and protect their rights.
CEO Ausamah bin Abdullah Al Absi of the LMRA praised the British attention to adjustment of the status of expatriate workers as well as the relevant initiatives and partnerships with the labour-exporting nations, especially the cooperation with the Philippines regarding adjustment of the status of Filipino workers in Bahrain and finding the solutions to ensure the sustainability of such successful initiatives.
Al Absi said Bahrain does not hesitate to respond to partnership initiatives and cooperation calls from friendly countries. Bahrain welcomes the call of the British minister to exchange expertise and avail from the British technical and legal capabilities to develop and ensure continuous upgrading of our experience, he added.
