Bahraini participates in IPU 132nd Assembly

Manama, Apr. 12 (BNA): The Bahraini parliamentary delegation to the 132nd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), held in Vietnam's capital Hanoi, has affirmed that participating in the assembly contributed significantly to highlighting the image of the Kingdom of Bahrain and its status among the various countries of the world. The delegation underscored the importance of such events in promoting common international relations, unifying public interests among parliaments and work to achieve comprehensive cooperation at all levels. First Deputy Speaker and Head of the delegation Ali Al- Aradi chaired today a press conference, in which the delegation highlighted the good results and gains achieved for the Kingdom of Bahrain through participating in the assembly. The delegation members were elected for the membership of standing committee on democracy and human rights, standing committee on peace and international security and committee on the human rights of parliamentarians, which Bahrain achieved as the first gulf country and third Arab country since the inception of IPU. The delegation held several meetings with parliamentary delegations from various Gulf, Arab, European, Asian, African and Latin American countries in order to clarify the political and economic developments in the Kingdom of Bahrain since the beginning of the political reform in 2000. The delegation explain the fact about the security situation in the country and the role played by some regional powers to threaten the security and stability of the Kingdom of Bahrain, as well as the efforts of various government, private and public parties in the creation of a comprehensive national dialogue. The parliamentary delegation comprised Second Deputy Chairperson of the Shura Council and Deputy Head of delegation Jameela Ali Salman, MP Sawsan Taqawi, MP Dr. Saeed Al Yamani, MP Jameela Al Sammak, MP Mohammed Al Jowder, secretary-General of the Council of Representatives Abdulla Al-Dossary, Delegation's Advisor Ali Al-Khazali, Media Specialist Haifa Adwan and Delegation Members Ameera Al-Qataf and Sadiq Jaffar.
