Bahrain-UN media cooperation discussed

Manama, Nov 19 (BNA): Information, Shura and Representatives Councils Affairs Minister Isa bin Abdulrahman Al-Hammadi today received the UN Under-Secretary-General for Communications and Public Information Cristina Gallach. The minister underlined Bahrain as a leading regional model in human development and achieving the millennium development goals 2015, chiefly in areas of education, health care, women's empowerment and sustainable development. The two sides discussed ways to reinforce media cooperation and exchange of expertise in the field of communication, IT and training. They also discussed enhancing media coordination to contribute to raising awareness of the UN activities in the areas of maintaining international peace and security, bolstering sustainable development, respect for human rights and international law, as well as providing relief and humanitarian aid. The minister took pride in the Bahrain-UN cooperation level leading to promoting sustainable development witnessed in the era of HM King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa. The Under-Secretary-General lauded Bahrain's support for the UN activities and hosting various UN agencies.
