Bahrain, UN cooperation discussed

Manama, Jan.16 (BNA) The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, received a phone call from United Nations Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon, in which he expressed his sincere greetings and congratulations to His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, and Bahrain’s leadership on the occasion of the New Year. The Secretary General conveyed his best wishes to the Kingdom of Bahrain of continued progress and prosperity. The Secretary-General commended the wise policy of His Majesty the King, and the important role of the Kingdom of Bahrain in consolidating regional and international security and stability to contribute effectively in addressing and resolving the causes of tension and crises facing the region; in addition to fighting terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. The Foreign Minister expressed deep appreciation for the efforts and positive initiatives undertaken by the UN Secretary General and his keenness to enhance the role of the United Nations in order to attain a future that is more secure and prosperous for all the countries and the peoples of the world. The Foreign Minister stressed Bahrain’s commitment on developing relations and various aspects of cooperation with the United Nations and supporting its efforts in promoting international peace and security. Both sides also discussed means of strengthening bilateral cooperation and coordination between the Kingdom of Bahrain and the United Nations mechanisms.
