Bahrain is a role model in protecting workers' rights: IOE

Manama, May. 11. (BNA)-- First Deputy Chairman of the Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry(BCCI) Othman Mohammed Sharif Al Rayes affirmed that Bahrain shows remarkable interest in the expatriates' conditions and rights and is committed to all the terms and regulations of the International Labour Organisation (ILO) in this respect. He was speaking during a meeting with the International Organisation of Employers (IOE)'s Secretary- General Brent Wilton and IOE's Board of Directors Member Khalifa Matar Al Kaabi, attended also by BCCI's Second Deputy Chairman Jawad Yousuf Alhawaj, BCCI's Board of Directors members Khalid Ali Al Ameen and Deema Rasool Al Haddad as well as BCCI Chief Executive Eng. Nabeel Al Mahmood. IOE's Secretary-General expressed the organisation's readiness to cooperate with BCCI and open communication channels with the outer world regarding Bahrain's commitment to protect the workers' rights and to reflect a positive image about the good conditions of the national workforce, in light of the Bahraini leadership's efforts. Al Kaabi praised the tireless efforts exerted by Bahrain in the field of labour rights, reiterating the importance of continuing this approach, which, he said, has entitled Bahrain to be role model in protecting the workers' rights. The International Organisation of Employers (IOE) is the largest network of the private sector in the world with the membership of more than 150 unions of business owners in 143 countries. IOE is recognised in the field of business, especially with regard to discussions on political and social rights of workers and it seeks to influence the environment of practicing business, by laying regulatory frameworks at the international level to help organise projects and develop the private sector so as to ensure the creation of sustainable jobs.
