Bahrain participates in SOC-CICA meeting

Nur-Sultan, May 31 (BNA): The Kingdom of Bahrain participated in the first meeting of the Senior Officials Committee (SOC) of the Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA), in the presence of the Director of Afro-Asian Affairs Directorate, Muna Abbas Radhi. The meeting was held in CICA headquarters in Nur-sultan, the Republic of Kazakhstan, in preparation for the 5th CICA summit to be held in June 15, 2019 in Dushanbe, the Republic of Tajikistan, with the participation of the heads of member states and governments. The Deputy Foreign Minister of the Republic of Tajikistan, Yerzhan Ashikbayev, expressed his thanks to all members for their keenness to support CICA action in order to reinforce peace and security in Asia and throughout the world. The Kingdom of Bahrain has been participating effectively in the activities of CICA since it became a full member in 2011. This stems out of its belief in the importance of this forum in confidence-building and exchange of views between the Asian people for the purpose of enhancing sustainable development. CICA was established at the initiative of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev, which he proposed in 1992, at the 47th Session of the United Nations General Assembly. It provides a platform for discussing views on peace, security and development in Asia. It also sheds light on issues of military and political cooperation, economic cooperation, humanitarian cooperation, environmental cooperation, as well as new challenges and threats at the governmental, private and NGOs levels.
