Bahrain participates in Abu Dhabi Blue Economy Summit

Abu Dhabi, Jan. 19 (BNA): Assistant Foreign Minister for Foreign Affairs Abdulla bin Faisal bin Babr Al Dossari and the CEO of the Supreme Council for Environment (SCE) Dr. Mohammed Mubarak bin Daina participated in the Blue Economy Summit 11 held here today, as part of the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW) convened between 16 – 23 January 2016. The Summit stressed that the role and importance of Blue Economy to humanity couldn't be overlooked or ignored, particularly in relation to the perseveration and sustainability of maritime resources. The Summit issued the Second Abu Dhabi 2016 Blue Economy Declaration that encourages application of the Blue Economy supportive approach of the sustainable management of our seas and the oceans and thereby a significant contribution to the alleviation of global poverty, creation of sustainable livelihoods, increased food security, improved human well-being and social equity. It also called for active global cooperation to preserve and develop economic systems and sustainable development in oceans and seas. The Bahraini delegation said the Summit aimed to build upon the outcomes of the UN Sustainable Development Summit in September 2015 and Paris Climate Change Agreement UNFCCC COP 21. The Summit explored the available options to take practical steps to apply Blue Economy paradigm and to develop it in order to adapt to the climate changes. Abu Dhabi Sustainable Week (ADSW) is an annual global platform gathering of States and Organizations to address the interconnected challenges and that affects the widespread acceleration and adoption of sustainable development and clean energy.
