Bahrain markets gearing up for Ramadan

Manama, May.7 (BNA): Bahrain is stepping up preparations ahead of the advent of the holy month of Ramadan, which will start within a few days. The efforts are in line with the directives of His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al-Khalifa to ensure all Ramadan commodities are available in the markets.
Industry and Commerce Minister Zayed bin Rashid Al-Zayani deputised Undersecretary Nader Khalil Almoayyed to chair a meeting with food traders, representatives of hypermarkets and companies concerned with Government subsidies.
The session focused on food stocks, prices and planned Ramadan promotions, taking into account consumers' purchasing power. Traders said that more than 200 tons of fruit and vegetables imported from Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Lebanon, Turkey, India, Pakistan, the Philippines, South Africa and other countries would be available daily in local central markets across Bahrain.
Bahrain Livestock Company (BLIC) announced it would supply the markets with 4600 sheep and 140 cattle on a daily basis. Around 20,000 live sheep are also available in Bahrain farms. Three shipments comprising each 30,000 live Australian sheep will dock in Bahrain on June 10, July 2 and before the advent of Aid Al-Fitr.
Delmon Poultry Company said that it would supply the local markets with 28,000 chicken on a daily basis in addition to quantities of chilled and frozen poultry imported from Saudi Arabia, Turkey, France Brazil and other countries.
The Ministry of Commerce and Industry said that stocks of chilled and frozen chicken exceed 1800 tons – enough to cover consumers' needs for two months at least. Bahrain Flour Mills Company announced that it would supply 685 traditional bakeries and 74 automatic ones with subsidies flour on a daily basis.
