Bahrain to mark World Environment Day

Manama, June 4 (BNA): Bahrain will join the world in celebrating the World Environment Day tomorrow (June 5) under the theme " Seven Billion Dreams. One Planet. Consume with Care". Marking the occasion, Personal Representative of His Majesty the King and Chairman of the Supreme Environment Council Shaikh Abdullah bin Hamad Al Khalifa stressed Bahrain's keenness on giving environmental issues, sustainable development and preserving natural resources top priority, in line with the kingdom's strategic vision 2020.
He pointed out the efforts of the Supreme Environment Council to carry out programmes and take part in regional and international functions to avail of other experiences tackling environmental challenges, preserving wildlife, and protecting the ecosystem and biodiversity from the fast-paced industrial and urban development. He also stressed coordination with the UN environmental organisations, pointing out the Supreme Environment Council's support for the initiatives adopted by those organisations, in cooperation with the GCC countries, to serve the environment and sustainable development.
He thanked the parliament, ministries, government and non-government organisations, Bahrain Engineers Society, the UN Environment Programme and relevant parties for their efforts in preserving the environment and wildlife.
The Supreme Environment Council will organise, in cooperation with the parliament, a celebration in Dohat Arad, Muharraq, tomorrow to highlight the achievements made in protecting the environment. Another celebration will be held on June 13 at City Centre featuring various awareness and entertainment programmes.
