Bahrain chairs ESCWA executive committee meeting

Amman, Dec. 17 (BNA): Kingdom of Bahrain headed the Second meeting of the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA)'s Executive Committee, held in Amman on December 14-16. Assistant Under-Secretary for Arab & Afro-Asian Affairs and Organisations Dr. Shaikha Rana bint Isa bin Daij Al Khalifa gave a speech in which she underscored the importance of this meeting in light of the current regional and international challenges. She affirmed the Kingdom of Bahrain's keenness on promoting cooperation among state members in order to offer new visions and initiatives. She praised ESCWA's efforts and expressed Bahrain's interest in developing the committee's goals and consolidate relations among members so as to achieve the desired results. ESCWA Under-Secretary-General and Executive Secretary Dr. Rima Khalaf gave a speech in which she affirmed the importance of the executive committee and the authorities granted to it. She expressed thanks and appreciation to the Kingdom of Bahrain on the successful presidency of the executive committee since 2014. The meeting reviewed a number of the latest regional and international developments. The Kingdom of Bahrain presides ESCWA's 28th session since September 2014 and it is considered the first member to head ESCWA's sessions after its establishment.
