BACA President honoured by WMF

New York, Oct. 22 (BNA): The World Monuments Fund (WMF) conferred on President of Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities (BACA) Shaikha Mai bint Mohammed Al Khalifa the 2015 Watch Award in tribute for her efforts to preserve human heritage. Shaikha Mai is the first Arab personality to receive the honour during the Hardian Gala annual celebration which was attended by 400 invitees and which coincides with the 50th anniversary of WMF. Queen Sofia of Spain was also honoured at the celebration for her efforts to boost awareness and understanding of cultural heritage in Spain. Shaikha Mai emphasised the significance of the honour as a message to the world of the great importance accorded by Bahrain to human heritage. She also thanked WMF for its unrelenting efforts to preserve human heritage sites. She dedicated the prize to every supporter of the cultural march in Bahrain from the public and private sectors, underscoring the leadership's care and efforts to preserve the kingdom's rich heritage.
