Azerbaijani First Lady awarded interstate prize ‘Stars of Commonwealth’

Azerbaijan, Baku, April 13 / Trend / President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Mehriban Aliyeva has been today awarded the Interstate Prize "Stars of the Commonwealth", ITAR-TASS reported. Solemn ceremony of awarding the winners of the Interstate Award "Stars of the Commonwealth" has been held at the Russian State Library Pashkov House in Moscow today. Seven laureates from seven CIS countries were awarded. "Stars of Commonwealth" is awarded annually on three nominations, including science and education, art and culture, humanitarian activities. In his opening remarks State Duma Speaker Sergei Naryshkin said that the award has become a notable and significant event in the CIS. "I am convinced that cultural ties are not less important than economic, because we do not have any obstacles and barriers in this sphere," he said. "The brightest stars, gifted individuals and personalities that truly adorn the firmament of our Commonwealth have gathered today." President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Mehriban Aliyeva, head of the Bakulev Scientific Center of Cardiovascular Surgery Leo Bokeria, Culture and Sport Minister of Kyrgyzstan Ibrahim Dzhunusov were awarded in humanitarian sphere. Mehriban Aliyeva is Goodwill Ambassador of UNESCO and ISESCO. She is well known for her charitable activity in Azerbaijan and abroad. The large-scale projects, implemented by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation under her leadership, cover all vital spheres, including education, science, culture, ecology, sports, religion, etc. The construction of new hospitals and schools, the restoration of mosques, temples and religious monuments of other faiths, the revival of cultural traditions, the support of contemporary art and cultural heritage do not represent a whole list of Mehriban Aliyeva's activity.
