Aspetar to Celebrate International Nursing Day
Doha, April 25 (QNA) - Aspetar Qatar Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Hospital will pay tribute to nurses worldwide by celebrating the annual International Nursing Day on Thursday, 10th May.
International Nursing Day is celebrated around the world on the 12th May every year, on the anniversary of the birth of Florence Nightingale who is widely recognized as an important founder of modern nursing. In accordance with Aspetar s vision to be a Leader in Sports Medicine by 2015, this year s edition of the anniversary will specifically focus on nursing within the Sports Medicine field.
An all-day affair, the program for the event will be organized by the Department of Nursing and will take place in the Aspetar Auditorium. The celebration will include several presentations about the various nursing contributions to the Sports Medicine field, as well as the latest methods in the teaching and practicing of the specialty.
Additionally, a presentation entitled The Patient s Journey to Aspetar highlighting the different activities in each of the nursing departments will be shown to the audience, along with a detailed display on the nurse s specific roles within the Sports Club.
Aspetar CEO Dr. Khalifa Al Kuwari said: "I am incredibly proud of the work done by the nurses here at Aspetar. Their commitment and dedication to ensuring patients receive the very best possible care is second to none. Nursing Day is the perfect opportunity for us to reflect on the contribution nurses make to this Trust."
Additionally, Aspetar and University of Calgary Qatar (UCQ) recently signed an agreement allowing the hospital to deliver clinical training to Calgary nursing students.
The agreement will help to promote medical education within the region and encourage local Qatari residents to take an interest in the specific field.
Georges Nammour, Director of Nursing, commented on the union: "Through our vision, we are aiming to provide unique services in a very highly specialized field: Sports Medicine Nursing. We signed an agreement with Calgary University to assist in developing sports medicine nurses. Courses and practical workshops will be organized at Aspetar to raise the interest of the practice amongst the Qatari population."
Aspetar is the first specialized orthopedic and sports medicine hospital in the region and was officially accredited in 2009 by F-MARC as a FIFA Medical Centre of Excellence. (QNA)
