Ashghal Announces Start of Construction on 44 New Schools and Kindergarten Valued at QR 2 Billion

Doha, July 07 (QNA) -The Public Works Authority Ashghal today announced the start of construction work on 44 educational institutions for all age groups, distributed across the country’s various villages and suburbs with a total value of QR 2 billion. Projects include building 29 new schools and 15 new kindergartens, which are all expected to be completed in Q4 of 2014. The announcement took place during a signing ceremony for construction contracts held today in the presence of H.E. Eng. Nasser Ali Al-Mawlawi President of the Public Works Authority Ashghal, and H.E. Dr. Mohammed Abdul Wahed Ali Al Hammadi, Minister of Education and Higher Education, along with senior officials from the Ministry and Ashghal. Speaking on the occasion, H.E. Eng. Nasser Ali Al-Mawlawi stressed that Ashghal continues to work closely with the Ministry of Education and other government bodies to develop the educational facilities in Qatar. "In line with the Qatar National Vision 2030, Ashghal is committed to supporting an advanced educational system by building modern and technologically advanced educational institutions across Qatar. Education is a key pillar of social progress, and the new contracts clearly demonstrate Ashghals unwavering contribution to this crucial sector", he added. Ashghal last year delivered 26 schools and kindergartens built at an estimated cost of QR 1 Billion. The Authority will also handover 16 new schools and kindergartens, built at a total value of QR 442 Million, before the beginning of the new academic year 2013-2014. As per the contracts awarded today, the new schools and kindergartens will be built based on four approved types of design specifications. All will include various modern facilities including IT laboratories, sports halls, activity halls, libraries and classrooms. The design is in line with the Qatari Code for people with special needs providing ramps at entrances & exits and special specifications for bathrooms, and others areas. The design of these buildings also took into account the sustainably elements and "green buildings" requirements which include installation of systems and equipment that save energy and water. Ashghal has awarded 8 contractors to build these projects including TADMUR Trading & Contracting which was awarded a contract valued at (QR 167,100,000) to construct three new secondary schools in Al Waab, Al Aziziya, and Umm Ghuwailina, and another contract with a value of (QR 166,962,486) to construct three new Schools in Al Rayyan and Aba Al Hayran. While Imperial Trading & Contracting Co. (ITCC) was awarded a contract worth (QR 159,600,000) to build three new schools in the areas of Old Airport, Oneiza, and Al Woukair, and a contract worth (QR 182,820,000) to build three new schools in Al Khissa and Al Luqta. Al Darwish Engineering has won a contract valued at (QR 235,100,000) to build four new schools at Madinat Khalifa South, Madinat Khalifa North, and Onaiza and another contract valued at (QR 259,168,397) to build ten Kindergartens around Doha & several villages (Madinat Khalifa, Lijmiliya, Rawdat Egdaim, Al Mearad, Jeryan Jenaihat, Mebaireek, Al Hareen, Nuaija, and Old Airport). Lotus Trading & Contracting Co. was awarded a contract valued at (QR 216,960,000) for the construction of four new schools in Rawdat Al Hamama and Al Thameed, and International Trading & Contracting has won a contract worth (QR 155,000,000) for the construction of three new schools in Al Hilal, Nuaijaa and Al Thumama, and Al Jaber Trading & Contracting Co. was awarded a contract valued at (QR 158,316,196) for the construction of three new schools in Al Karaana and Mesaieed, while Al Sraiya Trading & Contracting Co. won a contract worth (QR 171,083,460) for the construction of three new schools and BOJAMHOOR Trading & Contracting has been awarded a contract worth (QR 120,500,000) to build five new kindergartens in Al Hilal, Leghwairya, and Al Rayyan.(QNA)
