Ashghal Announces Partial Opening of "Ain Khaled" Underpass

Doha, January 31 (QNA) -Qatar s Public Works Authority (Ashghal) is partially opening Ain Khaled underpass on Salwa Road on the 1st of February, where two out of four lanes will be open to traffic in each direction. The two lanes will match the number of operational lanes at the beginning and the end of the underpass to ensure streamline traffic flow, Ashghal said in a press release issued here on Thursday. The underpass will allow vehicles travelling between industrial area and Aziziya interchanges to bypass Ain Khalid traffic signal. Diverting traffic to the underpass comes in preparation for starting works on the main road and service roads along the side of the underpass, without affecting traffic flow. The opening of Ain Khaled tunnel is an important milestone in the completion of the QR1.6 bln Salwa Road project. The project will deliver approximately seven kilometres of dual carriageway road along the alignment of the existing road. The mainline will feature eight lanes, four lanes in each direction separated by a median with continuous service roads, as well as four two-level interchanges. Salwa Road is part of Ashghal s Expressway Programme, which is a nationwide road infrastructure programme that will improve the way people and places are connected across Qatar. With ten projects under construction, the programme will deliver more than 30 major road projects across Qatar including new and upgraded freeways, expressways and arterial roads, a new orbital highway and truck route as well as substantial upgrades to existing roads, the press released added.(QNA)
