Arab League Deputy Sec. Gen Hails Qatar's Role in Backing Arab Issues
Doha, June 03 (QNA) - The Deputy Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ambassador Ahmed Ben Helli, said that the Arab Conference for developing Arab League (AL) Human Rights system which began sessions Monday to follow up the implementation of the 24th Arab summit's outcomes which was hosted by Qatar in last March.
Ambassador Ben Helli expressed appreciation to HH the Emir, the Qatari people and government for hosting that important regional conference, describing Qatar as a developed and distinguished Arab country for its role in backing the Arab nation causes and contributing to Arab people development.
He noted that the Arab League in need of support of the civil society organizations, unions and NGO through sincere and constructive words, wise thinking at this stage in which the Arab nation is facing many challenges and new responsibilities resulting from the successive recent events taking place in the region .
He stressed that the Arab spring uprisings had raised developments and popular challenges led by the Arab young people who aspire for building a state of institutions based on good governance, proper democratic approach and social solidarity.
Speaking at the opening session of the conference, the Deputy Secretary-General of the Arab League underlined that the human rights causes are not an internal issue, but they rather became an international issue requiring close follow-up at the level of the Arab region in which violations of human rights have increased during the broke out of conflicts and crises, citing the situation in al-Qusayr city in Syria whose people are facing a humanitarian and disastrous tragedy, and the Israeli systematic violations against the Palestinian people which breached all international treaties and conventions relating to its responsibility as an occupying force.(QAN)
