APM Terminals Bahrain joins international campaign

Manama, Sept. 21 (BNA): APM Terminals Bahrain, operators of the state-of-the-art Khalifa bin Salman Port (KBSP), joined the ‘Go Green’ international campaign which was launched by leading international marine port terminal operators. ‘Go Green’ is the first ever joint environmental initiative launched by DP World, APM Terminals, Hutchison Port Holding Limited (HPH), PSA International and Shanghai International Port Group and Port of Rotterdam Authority (PRA). As part of the campaign, APM Terminals Bahrain organised a range of activities which were in keeping with the global initiative, which focuses on three main themes: re-use and recycling, climate change and the generating awareness in the local communities in the country in which it operates. The campaign was held from 14-21 September to highlight environmental awareness and make a sustainable difference to the community in Bahrain. Commenting on the ‘Go Green’ campaign, Mark Hardiman, Managing Director of APM Terminals Bahrain said: "The events of this week are more than APM Terminals Bahrain initiatives- this is something that the five leading Port Operators around the world are supporting. We are excited to be part of this ‘Go Green’ campaign, a joint industry initiative of this magnitude promoting environmental awareness, and join the international efforts to save the planet. "We have already started recycling waste within the port and have put in place several other measures to support this global initiative. By putting our efforts together for this worthy cause, we hope to do our bit to create a greener, cleaner environment for everyone and Bahrain in particular." During the week, APM Terminals Bahrain organised awareness sessions in partnership with the Electricity and Water Authority (EWA) who conducted lectures highlighting various tools and methods that can be used to conserve energy. In addition, employees from the various departments in the port attended a series of workshops. Furthermore, other initiatives include: procuring recyclable bags for distributing to drivers and employees, worn out tires used for planting trees, awareness on waste segregation, food wastage and a beach cleanup at Asry amongst others. Flyers were circulated to explain the importance of recycling and waste segregation. Besides, to generate further awareness posters were placed throughout the port on the three main themes, to promote the initiative internally. APM Terminals Bahrain applies the latest innovation and technology to improve safety performance at the Port, and the company’s objectives depend on the highest standards of safety. One of the few multi-purpose ports in the region, APM Terminals Bahrain provides a wide range of services at KBSP, including the provision of sea freight, shipping, and logistical services to the highest international standards in the industry.
