AOT set up 24-hour flood watch center at Suvarnabhumi Airport
BANGKOK, November 8 (TNA) - The Airports of Thailand (AOT) has set up a 24-hour flood watch centre at Suvarnabhumi Airport to monitor flood waters approaching the airport from the North, according to a senior official of the AOT.
Senior Executive Vice President of the AOT Somchai Sawasdeepon said on Tuesday the flood watch centre would work closely with the Royal Irrigation Department and the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, particularly with regards to the exchange of information.
Having assessed water levels in canals nearby the airport, Somchai said he is still confident the protective dyke surrounding the airport would be able to withstand the floodwater and that aviation services at the airport would not be affected.
The water level in Saensaeb Canal reportedly rose slightly Tuesday, while the water levels in Lumplatiew and Prawet Canals were the same.
Nearby roads including Bangna Trad, Onnuch, Lardgrabang, Romklao and Motorway also reportedly remained dry Tuesday.
Somchai said authorities would carry out thirteen canal dredging projects on nearby canals to facilitate water drainage to the sea, adding that the nearby canals would be able to hold the flood water. (TNA)
