Ambassadorial meeting of landlocked developing countries held

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. Permanent Representative of Mongolia to the United Nations and other international organizations in Geneva, Ambassador L.Purevsuren chaired the Ambassadorial meeting of landlocked developing countries in Geneva on April 19. During the meeting, the sides exchanged views on organizing a ministerial meeting of landlocked developing countries during the 15th session of the UN Conference on Trade and Development to be held on October 3-8, and the 12th Ministerial Conference of the World Trade Organization between November 30 and December 3. There are currently about 50 landlocked countries in the world, 32 of which are landlocked developing countries and 26 of which are members of the World Trade Organization. Mongolia has been elected as the coordinator of landlocked developing countries in Geneva in 2020-2021. Landlocked developing countries face many challenges, such as remoteness from seaports and international markets, high foreign trade costs, and high dependence on transit countries, and their share in international trade is only 1 percent. During the meeting, Ambassador L.Purevsuren called for accession to the Multilateral Agreement on the Establishment of the International Center for Landlocked Developing Countries in Ulaanbaatar. The agreement, which was ratified in 2010 and entered into force on October 6, 2017, has now been ratified by 14 countries.
