Algerian intellectuals, politicians react to French resolution on incidents of 1915
ISTANBUL (A.A) - Algerian intellectuals and politicians are strongly reacting to the French resolution on Armenian allegations regarding the incidents of 1915.
Algerian intellectuals say that France is ignoring its own genocide.
"France, which brings up Armenian allegations, tries to hush up the massacres it committed in Algeria between 1830 and 1962," Abdulaziz Filali, an Algerian academician and a lecturer at Mentouri University, told AA correspondent.
Filali said France hushed up its massacres in Algeria with a law it passed in 2005, and interpreted the French resolution on Armenian allegation as "hypocricy."
"We demand that France confess the massacres in Algeria, and we have asked for admission of racist war, massacre, genocide and crimes of humanity for many times," Filali said.
Filali said Algerian people and government wanted 150-year French imperialism to be punished.
"Although French administration tries to evade the responsibility of this massacre, it can never pave its way, because everybody has images and pictures of the massacre," he said.
Moreover, Jalul al-Judi, the spokesperson of Algeria's Labor Party, said France was often intervening in internal affairs of other countries, and was trying to dominate other people and states.
Al-Judi also said everybody was aware of France's massacre in Algeria.
The French resolution on Armenian allegations regarding the incidents of 1915 will be voted at the general assembly on Thursday. It envisages "one-year prison term and 45,000 Euro fine for those who deny genocide recognized by French laws."
