Al Marri Commends Arab Human Rights Committee Role

Cairo , June 23 (QNA) - Qatar National Human Rights Committee Chairman HE Dr. Ali Bin Smaikh Al Marri, who is also the Chairman of the Arab Permanent Committee for Human Rights has underlined the role of the Committee in the promotion and dissemination of the culture of human rights. Dr. Al Marri in his speech today at the in the 34th session of the Arab Human Rights Committee, extended congratulations to the Palestinian people on winning the observer status at the United Nations. He said the committee's meeting would discuss the Israeli violations, and will follow-up the issue of Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails, Judaization and attacks on Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Islamic and Christian holy sites, in addition to the siege imposed Gaza Palestinians. With regard to the Arab Charter on Human Rights and the recommendations issued by the Arab Standing Committee, Dr. Al Marri urged the Member States which have not ratified the Charter to do so and submit their the related reports to the Committee on the Charter. He noted that only 11 countries have so far ratified the Charter. Dr. Al Marri also noted the need to discuss developments of the implementation of the Arab plan for human rights education in the Arab countries and present the related reports of the competent departments of human rights, as well as to discuss the commitment of Member States on submitting their reports on the promotion of human rights.
