Al-Kadhimi Meets Pelosi, Affirms: Iraq Is A Sovereign State And Dealing With It Shall Be According To This Principle

Al-Kadhimi stressed that "Iraq is a sovereign state, and dealing with it is in accordance with this principle," stressing "the need to strengthen cooperation between Iraq and the United States of America, especially in the economic field." He stressed that "the prospects for cooperation between Baghdad and Washington are not limited to the security and military side only, but go beyond it to various fields that include rehabilitation and reconstruction of Iraq and building economic partnerships with the United States of America," noting that "the strategic dialogue that took place between the Iraqi and American sides during his visit to Washington summarized several important points, which would establish a new phase of bilateral relations between the two countries. For her part, US House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi welcomed Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi and his accompanying delegation, and praised the steps taken by Al-Kadhimi since assuming his duties in the government, and the efforts made by the Iraqi government in the file of the components and the displaced. Pelosi added that "the United States of America supports the current Iraqi government and its national orientations," noting that "Iraq is an independent country and an important country in a difficult region, and there is a consensus to support the independence of the Iraqi government, rehabilitate the Iraqi state and support Iraq's efforts in the war against ISIS."
