Al Dhahrani: GCC peoples, legislative councils look forward to union

Manama, May. 23. (BNA) -- Speaker of the Council of Representatives Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Dhahrani has affirmed that the strength of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) stems from its wise leaderships and peoples’ cohesion. He said that GCC citizens are looking forward to moving to from the “cooperation” stage to the “Union” one, being an important strategy for the future of the region's countries and peoples. He added that the legislative councils of GCC states are looking forward to the implementation of the proposal submitted by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud during the 14th GCC Consultative Meeting on moving from cooperation to unity among member countries, its positive impact on the region's future. In a statement marking the 33rd anniversary of GCC, announced in Abu Dhabi's Summit on May 25, 1981, Al Dhahrani's extended congratulations to all GCC leaders and peoples. He expressed sincere thanks, gratitude and appreciation to His Majesty the King Hamad bin Isa Al-Khalifa for his key role in supporting the GCC march, His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, for his remarkable contributions to enhancing joint GCC action, and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister, for his pioneering future visions. He lauded the GCC’s achievements in the political, economic, security, defence, social and educational fields, praising GCC countries’ effective coordination and unified stances at international gatherings, which contributed to boosting joint GCC action in various fields. Al-Dhahrani expressed appreciation to the GCC Secretary-General Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani and the GCC General Secretariat's workers for their tremendous efforts to enhance the GCC march.
