Al Attiyah Participates in Ministerial Conference on Climate Change in Bonn
Bonn, May 04 (QNA) - HE Chairman of the Administrative Control and Transparency Authority Abdullah bin Hamad Al Attiyah participated in the Ministerial Conference on Climate Change opened here on Friday.
Addressing the Conference, HE Al Attiyah extended thanks to COP17/CMP7 President Minister Koana Mashabane for convening this important meeting before the formal discussions that are due to commence on the 14th of May, and for careful stewardship of the negotiations in Durban and on the success that was achieved there.
HE Al Attiyah also thanked Madame Executive Secretary Christiana Figueres for the support that she has provided for the support that she has provided for my team, and for offering these impressive premises of the United Nations to conduct these meetings.
It was a historic achievement, as for the first time we have witnessed the commitment of all parties to collectively take action to address the Climate Change Challenge, HE Al Attiyah noted.
HE Al Attiyah further said: "I took forward to working closely with you Minister Mashabane and your team to ensure that we build on the momentum and positive spirit that was achieved around the outcomes of Durban. We look forward to conducting a meeting between our two negotiating teams to enhance cooperation during the transition period between Durban and Doha".
"To all Parties and Chairs of the various bodies, I look forward to hosting you in Doha at the end of this year and providing the ideal environment for building on the positive outcomes of the discussions that were held in Cancun and Durban" HE Al Attiyah added.
He said "We all recognize that climate change is a global problem that transcends beyond our national boarders, and therefore the only way to address this problem is a collective and strong international response".
HE Al Attiyah said: "Qatar looks forward to hosting all of you in Doha during the COP-18/CMP8, we look forward to extending to each and every delegate our warmest hospitality. The COP-18/CMP 8 will be held at the newly opened Qatar National Convention Center, which boasts the latest state of the art technology to accommodate your every need during the negotiations".
HE Al Attiyah said: As incoming president I am here to listen to all of you. My team and I give you the assurance that we will conduct open", transparent and inclusive consultations throughout the year. My team is accessible to every delegation. Ambassador Khalid Al Khater is also here and he will be engaging with your respective delegations in the run up to Doha.
"There is a lot of work to be done in the lead up to our conference in Doha. I look forward to this work advancing so that we can all deliver a successful conference and strengthened actions on climate change" HE Al Attiyah noted.
"Those who have been engaged in the process for some time will know that a holistic approach is needed, since and many issues are inter-dependent. For this reason I urge parties to engage constructively and proactively to complete work in the lead up to our conference in Doha" he said.
Concluding HE Al Attiyah said: "Once again, let me reiterate that as incoming President, I intend to work closely with all parties, as well as with the Chairs of the various bodies to ensure the delivery of results and success in Doha". (QNA)
