Al Attiyah Addresses Reception of Petersberg Climate Dialogue III
Berlin, July 15 (QNA) - HE Chairman of the Administrative Control and Transparency Authority Abdullah bin Hamad Al Attiyah, who is also the President of the Climate Change Conference (COP18 ), participated in the reception organized by Germany's Environment Minister Peter Altmaier on the occasion of the Petersberg Climate Dialogue III due to open on Monday.
HE Al Attiyah gave a speech in which he expressed Qatar's willingness to enhance cooperation with Germany to address the impacts of climate change.
"Qatar is committed to reducing carbon emissions and increasing energy efficiency," His Excellency said.
"I am delighted to be working with Minister Altmaier in co-chairing the Third Petersberg Climate Summit. This Summit has grown to become an essential midway point allowing us to reflect and become energized through the formal negotiations from Bonn to Doha. It allows us an opportunity to informally understand each other so that we can better define strategies and action plans to ensure that our negotiations are successful."
He also said that Qatar seeks to cooperate with countries of the world to address the scarcity of water and ensure food security, pointing out that Qatar "have proposed an international Global Dry Land Alliance in order to tackle our common problems in ensuring a secure supply of food for our countries".
"I have no doubt that with the quality of leaders represented here we will be better empowered to ensure that CO 18/CMP 8 in Doha will positively take forward the tremendous work done to date by our negotiations."
The event was attended by HE Qatar's Ambassador to Germany Abdurrahman bin Mohammed Al Khulaifi and members of the delegation accompanying the Chairman of the Administrative Control and Transparency Authority. (QNA)
