Agreements signing during Cypriot President's visit: Consul affirms

Manama, Mar. 8 – (BNA): The Honorary Consul of Cyprus Republic to the Kingdom of Bahrain, Stephanos G. Zachariades, said the anticipated visit of Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades to the Kingdom of Bahrain on Sunday will culminate in the signing of several memoranda of agreements. The Cypriot Consul has affirmed the deep-rooted amicable bilateral cooperation relations extending over forty years. He told Bahrain News Agency (BNA) this is the second official visit by the Cypriot President to the Kingdom of Bahrain (i.e. the first visit was on April, 12, 2014) which will further bolster the bilateral ties that began in the reign of the late HH Shaikh Isa in Salman Al Khalifa the Amir of the State of Bahrain. "These relations have seen constant growth and development in the past four decades, in addition to the establishment of companies which carry out business activities easily in view of available facilitations in Bahrain's open market," he said, adding that "areas for cooperation will cover numerous sectors and key vital areas for the benefit of both sides, such as cooperation in the political, economic, energy, health, tourism, maritime, airlines-related fields in addition to IT". He said "Cyprus is part of the vast Middle East region, which enjoys strong ties with Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC)-member countries. Cyprus is a member of the European Union (EU) and also a member of the European Community (EC), and in view of its features is in a position to spin the threads of cooperation and contribute to rapprochement between the EU and the GCC countries". About 150 Cypriot nationals live in Bahrain, the Cypriot Consul said, citing many similarities between Bahrain and Cyprus. Both island countries are considered the cradle of civilisations and cultures and have always been known for the characteristic generosity and hospitality of their peoples, he concluded his statement.
