Act To Send One Thousand Tons Of Rice From Aceh To Syria

BANDA ACEH, Aceh Darussalam, March 13 (Antara) - The Swift Response Action (ACT) of Aceh will send one thousand tons of rice to Syria to help victims of the prolonged war in the Middle Eastern country. "In the very near future we will send one thousand tons of rice to Syria. The assistance under the humanitarian ship program will be dispatched directly from Aceh," Husaeini Ismail, chairman of the ACT's Aceh chapter, said here, Monday. The ACT humanitarian ship carrying the rice from Aceh will depart for Syria on April 21, he added. "We hope that within one month, we will be able to collect one thousand tons of rice from Aceh for the Syrian people. In addition to Syria, we had previously sent rice to Sudan and Palestine," Ismail said, while attending a grand rice harvest in Gampong Lampuuk villge, Kuta Baro sub-district, Aceh Besar district. Senior Vice President of ACT Imam Akbari, who was also present on the occasion, said the people of Aceh have frequently sent humanitarian assistance to several countries such as Sudan, Syria, Palestine, and Myanmar to help the oppressed Rohingya ethnic minority. "The humanitarian assistance demonstrates that the people of Aceh care about those living in conflict-ridden countries. And we are trying to deliver the assistance as soon as possible," Akbari said.
