Abadi Meets Egyptian President Sisi In Cairo

BAGHDAD, IRAQ (NINA) – Iraqi Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi met with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi in Cairo on Sunday evening to discuss bilateral relations, the situation in the region and the fight against terrorism. "The two sides reviewed the bilateral relations between Iraq and Egypt, the ways to strengthen them, the political and security situation in the region, the fight against terrorism and regional cooperation to combat it, the Iraqi victories achieved against terrorist gangs and the Iraq's vision of the future of the region," a statement of the Prime Minister's Media Office said. Sisi also praised the victories achieved by the Iraqi security forces against the terrorist gangs and expressed his support for the unity of Iraq, confirming that Egypt has been supportive of Iraq in its war against terrorism and supports the steps taken by the Iraqi government to extend federal authority. Abadi stressed the importance of strengthening relations with the Arab Republic of Egypt in various fields to serve the interests of the two brotherly peoples, pointing out that Iraq has presented a vision for the future of the region based on development and security instead of differences and wars. Al-Abadi arrived at Cairo International Airport on an official visit to Egypt for several hours, as part of the regional tour which he began yesterday in Saudi Arabia, and includes Jordan, Turkey and Iran./ End
