Abadi From Ankara: Our Duty Is To Preserve The Unity Of The Country

BAGHDAD, IRAQ (NINA) - Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi said the law is now in effect on all Iraqi territories.
"Our duty is to preserve the unity of the country and to protect the country from disintegration that threatens not only Iraq but also the region," Abadi told a joint news conference with Turkish President Erdogan in Ankara on Wednesday.
"We have tried to stop the referendum, which happened unilaterally without any respect or consideration of the components of the other Iraqi people, but the referendum was held without any consultation," noting that "some tried through the referendum to separate and re-division and remove the border by force and bloodshed, it is our duty as a federal government to protect all citizens regardless of their national, religious or religious affiliations. "
"The current Iraqi forces are not the forces of Saddam's Baathist regime, which was oppressing the citizens at that time," Abadi said. "The current army forces are aimed at protecting and defending civilians." Added "No group is allowed to carry arms in Iraq outside the law."
