5 Japanese Iranologists honored

Tokyo, Oct 12, IRNA Concurrent with Hafez Day (October 11), five veteran Japanese
Iranologists were honored here at Iran's Embassy in a ceremony
attended by Iran's Ambassador to Tokyo, Seyyed Abbas Araqchi.

Speaking at the gathering, Araqchi said that today is the day of
honoring those who have made more efforts for the advancement of
Persian language and culture.

"Holding ceremonies of this type is the least means for expressing
gratitude to them," he said, congratulating them on Hafez Day.

At the event, a master of Iranian musical instruments performed
traditional music using dulcimer, Daf (a traditional percussion
instrument) and Sitar (a traditional Iranian string instrument).

The Japanese Iranologists have made invaluable contributions to the
Persian language by translating Iranian classical works including
selected sections of Shahnameh (an epic by noted Iranian poet
Abolqassem Ferdowsi) and Khayyam quatrains into Japanese language.
