20 - 28% of fires in Kyrgyzstan caused by careless smoking

According to data the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Kyrgyz Republic, from 20% to 28% of fires in the country annually occur due to careless smoking, Renat Toktaliev, the Head of the Fire Analysis Department of the Fire Fighting and Fire Prevention Department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations told during a press conference at Kabar. He said that from 2013 to 2017, 345 people died due to fires, of which 123 people (from 30% to 40% annually) - as a result of careless cigarette smoking. “In 2021, there were 3,880 fires, as a result of which the damage amounted to more than 905 million soms,” Toktaliev said. He noted that every year employees of the Ministry of Emergency Situations carry out preventive measures among the population in order to avoid consequences.
