‘Big Cleaning Day’ in Bangkok starts

BANGKOK, November 19 (TNA) - Government and private sectors, celebrities and the general public poured out on Saturday for a massive clean up spree in Bangkok after flood waters receded. Meanwhile, Bangkok Governor M.R. Sukhumbhand Paribatra has pledged to fully revive the capital before December 31 as New Year’s gift to the Thai people. The Big Cleaning Day activity started out in the morning from Kamphaeng Phet intersection on Phaholyothin Road to Ratchayothin intersection. Twenty-five trucks carrying water and about 1,000 cleaning kits were provided in cleaning eight areas which were inundated heavily earlier. Also seen participating in the activity on Saturday morning was Thailand’s First Army Region Commander Lieutenant General Udomdej Sitabutr. The Bangkok governor said similar clean up activities would be extended to other areas in Bangkok later and should all be finished before December 31 as New Year’s gift for people living in Bangkok. Meanwhile, the Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand, which operates Bangkok’s sky train and subway services, has held an activity to make 50,000 Effective Micro-organism (EM) Balls, to be distributed for treating stagnant flood waters.
