WADA Achieves Its Humanitarian Mission To Cambodia Objectives - Medical Head

By Mohd Hisham Abdul Rafar PHNOM PENH, May 9 (Bernama) -- The Felda Women's Association of Malaysia's (WADA) humanitarian mission to Cambodia that focused on women and children's health has achieved its objectives, said its medical group mission head Dr Mohd Zaqrul Razmal Mohd Podzi. He said his medical team had successfully circumcised more than 240 children from four villages in Kampong Cham Province, East Cambodia and that he was satisfied with the smooth operation. "I believe we have accomplished our mission here because we managed to conduct health inspection, circumcision, provide dental care, as well as defleaing and deworming the children. So far, we have helped about 1,000 patients. "Despite the various challenges we faced such as communications, insufficient work space and the absence of electricity, it did not stop us from helping the Muslims in this country. I am satisfied with the tasks carried out by the medical team," he told Bernama here Sunday. The group, comprising 10 Malaysian doctors and nurses, was assisted by two medical doctors and nurses, respectively, from government hospitals in Cambodia. Dr Mohd Zaqrul, who is also a paediatrician in Putrajaya, said the four-day health camp since last Thursday received an unexpected turnout. "Maybe because our stint here is short. Hence, the reason the people here are willing leave everything behind to get their treatment," he said. He also said the assistance by four local medical personnel was indeed helpful as they acted as the mediator for the team who faced difficulties in communicating with the people. The humanitarian mission ended today with focus on selected villages namely Kampung Tegar, Kampung Jhiro, Kampung Poti In and Kampung Kian Ramiat. --BERNAMA
