Malaysia Calls For Realisation Of OIC Extraordinary Summit Resolutions

By Azeman Ariffin JAKARTA, March 8 (Bernama) -- Malaysia has called on the actual realisation of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Extraordionary Summit on Palestine and Al-Quds Al-Sharif resolutions. Its Foreign Minister Anifah Aman said the time has come for all OIC member countries to unite in both words and actions for the sake of the Palestinian people, who were being oppressed by the Israeli regime in their own land. "Hence, what matters for the OIC is the unity, so that the results of our discussions can be implemented. I have been saying this from the beginning that we do not want this (conference) to only serve as a talk show. "Malaysia has presented all measures, which can conceivably lead to solutions for all parties involved but unfortunately after a meeting, not much has been done or implemented," he told Malaysian journalists here Monday. He said the key issues dicussed at the extraordionary summit held in Jakarta was the Israel regime's atrocities against the Palestinians and the illegal invasion on Al Quds. Representing Prime Minister Najib Razak at the conference, Anifah proposed that Muslim countries look for ways to attain peace in Palestine. He said the main focus of the conference was Israeli's atrocities against the Palestinians for the last nearly six decades. "I believe that through the discussions that have been conducted, Malaysia has been vocal about the Palestinian issues and hope that what has been discussed and agreed can be implemented...the key is united," he said. Earlier while delivering his speech at the summit meeting, Anifah said Malaysia strongly condemned the provocations by the Israel regime in and around the holy sites of Al Quds Al Sharif. He said, Malaysia also called for the international community to pursue all legal, diplomatic and economic channels in order to put pressure on the Israeli government to stop its illegal settlement policy. "Pending a final and comprehensive settlement to the Palestinian issue, Malaysia reiterates the call for the United Nation or international protection for the Palestinian people, a position that was conveyed during the UN Security Council Quarterly Open Debate on the Middle East on Oct 16, 2015 and Jan 26, 2016," he said. Anifah said, as a long-term solution, the two-state solution remains the best approach for both Palestine and Israel and efforts should be intensified to make both sides return to the negotiating table. --BERNAMA
