A Great Day To Cherish The Deeds Of Every Woman

KUALA LUMPUR, March 8 (Bernama) -- Every year, March 8 celebrates World Women’s Day; a special day to remember the wonderful deeds, contributions and sacrifices women have made to the family, society and the nation. We have had several women who have shown their leadership and innovative contributions to the fields of humanity, science, medical, sports, religion, economics, social and political fields which all can neither forget nor ignore. The world is a greater place to be with the wonderful endowment called women, the best proven partner for a man. What would life be without a woman? I wonder. What would I be without my mother or sisters; my wife and now without my beautiful daughters? Women are the source of love and care. They feed, nurse, care for and provide far better than man. Women are the best nurses, best care givers and naturally the best mothers. Fathers are no less, but every man learns to love and live from his mother. Women make the world a better place to live as they have a soft side for every challenge that faces anyone. The achievements of Janet Yellen (Chairman of the US Federal Reserve); Indran Nooyi (Chair and Chief Executive of PepsiCo); Gina Rinehart, the mining magnate; Dilma Rousseff, President of Brazil; Christine Lagarde (Managing Director of IMF); politician Hilary Clinton; Angela Markel, Chancellor of Germany; Melinda Gates, head of Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation; Park Geun-hye (President of South Korea) Sheryl Sandberg, Chief Operations Officer of Facebook – these are some of the women whose names are published in every nook and corner for their success and prowess. While there are few who are printed, published, adored and idolised, there are millions of women who may not hold high-ranking titles and positions but are constantly making personal contributions and sacrifices every day for the good of others. Some are working hard to make ends meet and to ensure their children are fed; some take care of the old, help the poor and manage the destitute; some even suffer in silence among brutality and abuse all around the world. These women should be given a larger space in the media and in the hearts and minds of the people. The governments, the United Nations (UN), non-governmental organisations (NGO’s), community based organisations (CBO’S) and the multi-national corporations (MNC’S) must focus on these unsung heroines who make this world a greater place to live in. While there are several issues which require the attention and action of the authorities and world bodies, I think women must never be a subject of abuse by whosoever in this modern world. The law and man must provide every woman with care and protection, thus ensuring that we create more liberated women to lead the world in the future. There should never be another incident of Malala Yousafzai, a Pakistani girl who was shot going to school. We should never hear or witness another Jyoti Singh, a physiotherapy intern who was gang raped in a bus in Delhi. We want to read and welcome women like Siza Mzimela, a South African businesswoman who was the first black woman to own an airline. We want our very own Mother Mangalam to be acknowledged and applauded by the United Nations for her commendable contributions to the poor and the destitute to further decorate this wonderful World Women’s Day. Celebrating World Women’s Day is a great way to remind everyone of the importance of every woman who make and shape our lives. There is every reason to celebrate this day, marking and saluting all the women who have made a difference to the world. Women who speak their minds and trudge forward towards building a better world like politicians, orators, high-ranking women; silent women who move around unheard and at times almost invisible to the world – the poor and destitute, the weak and abused, the raped and maimed; and women who single-handedly juggle everyday routines and roles of being a wife, a mother, a nanny, a cook, a housekeeper, a driver, a tutor, a confidant, a supporter, a homemaker… you may be anywhere in the world, but today (Tuesday) is the day where we salute you for your indomitable role in making the world a better place to live in. If love has another name, it must be ‘woman’. If care has another name it must be ‘mother’. If filial has another name it must be ‘daughter’. If responsibility has another name, it cannot be any other word other than ‘wife’. Happy World Women’s Day – ladies, we the world salute you!
