AYC Appoints Malaysian Mohamed Maliki As New Secretary-General

From Ali Imran Mohd Nordin PHNOM PENH, Feb 26 (Bernama) -- The Asian Youth Conference appointed Malaysian Mohamed Maliki Mohamed Rapiee as its new secretary-general for the 2016-2019 term at its annual general meeting (AGM) held here Thursday night. The AGM also appointed Cambodia's Union of Youth Federation president Hun Many to succeed Dr Mohamad Khir Toyo as the new president. Mohamed Maliki who has over 20 years of experience in various youth organisations and movements is also the current Kuala Lumpur International Youth Centre director, a post he held since June 2015. He was also Malaysian Youth Council president from 2010 to 2015. The founder and CEO of My Humanitarian Movement (MyHumanitarian) was also appointed as vice president of the Malaysian Handball Federation early this year. AYC new president Hun Many is a Member of the National Assembly of Cambodia and fourth child of the country’s prime minister, Hun Sen. In his speech, Hun Many called for experience sharing among AYC member countries to boost greater ties and stronger relations for mutual benefit. "There are many aspects from our previous projects that we can compile and put up together to parties like the United Nations. The expertise that we had gain through these years is something we need to use to move forward together," he said. Among others appointed at the AGM were two deputy presidents, Li Qing from China and Jee Sesun from Korea. Also appointed were five vice presidents namely Mohamad Fazlul Haque (Bangladesh), Earl P. Saavedra (Philippines), Pahlevi Pangerang (Indonesia), Mohd Zahid (Maldives) and Dr. Ali Mohamad Mansoor (Yemen). Meanwhile, Toh Wee Kee from Singapore was reappointed as treasurer while Mohamad Zefri Arief from Brunei was appointed as deputy secreatary general. The AYC is a non-governmental regional youth organisation formed in August 1972 to provide a common platform for Asian youth and youth leaders pursuing similar objectives for economic and social development. -- BERNAMA
