A heavy tropical cyclone lashed the northwestern Australian coast on Friday morning, damaging properties and leaving trail of dirt, local media reported.

Cyclone Ilsa made landfall Thursday night in Western Australia and swept through “major centers in Western Australia's northwest – such as Port Hedland and the remote community of Bidyadanga – avoided serious damage,” according to ABC News.

No reports of any injury were received as local authorities withdrew cyclone warnings.

Earlier, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said the government had opened five evacuation centers in Port Hedland, South Hedland, Marble Bar, Newman, and Nullagine.

“There's a great sense of relief for many – as major towns in Tropical Cyclone Ilsa's path have escaped the worst of its impact. But there is despair for others – who are now confronting the damage caused by the severe weather system,” SBS News said.

Affected residents have begun cleaning process after the cyclone which has severely affected residences and businesses.
