ChatGPT Usage Rate at 7 Pct among Business People in Japan: Survey

Tokyo, June 12 (Jiji Press)--The rate of people using ChatGPT for business purposes is still at 7 pct in Japan, far below 51 pct in the United States, a private survey showed on Monday. The survey by MM Research Institute Ltd. also suggested that 46 pct of people in Japan do not know the artificial intelligence chatbot operated by U.S.-based OpenAI. The survey was conducted online in late May, covering employees of companies and organizations in Japan and the United States. Valid responses were given by 13,412 in Japan and 402 in the United States. In both Japan and the United States, text generation was the most common purpose for using ChatGPT. Respondents in Japan were less likely than those in the United States to use the technology for summarizing text, translating, and generating ideas. As challenges for expanding the use of ChatGPT, similar proportions of Japanese and U.S. respondents cited the accuracy of responses and privacy concerns. Meanwhile, the need to promote workers' understanding was mentioned by 17 pct in Japan and 34 pct in the United States. MM Research Institute noted that in the United States, how to explain to employees the use of ChatGPT in the workplace is starting to become an issue from the perspective of employment opportunities.
