Tramways to operate in Tbilisi again

The French company Systra has presented a tramway project in Tbilisi today. Tbilisi Mayor Gigi Ugulava, representatives of the World Bank, Asian Development Bank, European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the French Embassy attended the presentation.
The project is public. Any interested person may participate in a discussion and express opinions.
The next phase relating to funding envisages negotiations with international financial institutions.
According to Tbilisi City Hall's initiative, a comfortable, fast, clean and safe vehicle will appear in the capital in the near future.
The project is being implemented by Systra. According to the poll, the technical project of tram network was prepared. The project was funded by the French government.
The length of the tram lines in Tbilisi will hit 14 kilometers, it will run from the center, the prospect Chavchavadze, to Ortachala. The duration of a one-way trip will be 30 minutes. Up to 100,000 people will use it per year.
Earlier, there were trams in Tbilisi but they closed down in 2006.
