TNSC to submit proposed int'l trade promotion strategy to new Thai government

BANGKOK, June 4 (TNA) - The Thai National Shippers' Council (TNSC) says that the TNSC has worked out a proposed international trade promotion strategy to be submitted to the newly-elected administration after it takes office. TNSC Chairperson Ghanyapad Tantipipatpong told journalists of the update in Bangkok on Tuesday, saying that the proposed seven-point strategy is expected to support the new Thai government's moves to deal with international trade problems, caused mainly by the ongoing trade war between the immense Chinese and the US economies. Ghanyapad said the seven-point strategy includes exploring and opening new markets for Thai exporters through, among others, negotiations with major trading partners on new free trade agreements (FTAs), expanding the electronic commerce (e-commerce) platforms and producing human resources that meet the demands for the current international trade through modified curricula. Ghanyapad revealed that the seven-point strategy also includes further developing of Thailand's infrastructure and logistics systems, stabilizing the country's financial and foreign exchange systems, promoting the development of major local factors of production for the Thai trade and investment and amending laws to be in line with the global economic condition currently. The TNSC chairperson projected, meanwhile, that amid the persistent trade war between the United States and China, Thai exports would have to reach at least about 22.12 billion US dollars monthly during the rest of this year in order to enable the country's exports to grow by 1 per cent year-on-year in 2019. The TNSC chairperson made the forecast after Thailand's exports during the first four months of this year stood at about 80.54 billion US dollars, a 1.9 per cent year-on-year contraction, due to negative impacts from the ongoing trade war between Washington and Beijing.
