Thailand's most flooded industrial sites resume production

BANGKOK, December 9 (TNA) - Thai Industry Minister Wannarat Channukul has acknowledged that most flooded industrial sites in the country have resumed production. Regarding the rehabilitation of Thailand's seven flooded industrial sites, Wannarat said that the Navanakorn Industrial Promotion Zone is now the only local industrial estate where some floodwater has remained but about 15 factories there have already resumed production. Wannarat acknowledged that floodwater at the other six affected industrial sites, mostly in the central Ayutthaya Province, has already been drained out and part of their manufacturing plants have resumed production. Meanwhile, the Engineering Institute of Thailand and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) are working together to design a dyke system to prevent floods at Thai industrial sites in the future, with the work expected to be completed by August 2012 or the country's next rainy season.
