Thai rubber farmers protest over low prices
SURAT THANI, THAILAND, June 14 (TNA) - Some 200 rubber farmers rallied in front of the Provincial Hall here Thursday, demanding that the government urgently solve the problem of low rubber prices.
The protestors handed the written demand to Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra, through Surat Thani Governor Cherdsak Chusri, in which they also called for the government to intervene in the domestic market by purchasing raw rubber at 120 baht per kilogram, after its prices have now plunged to 85 baht per kilogram.
The rubber growers later dissolved after the provincial governor promised to work with the government to urgently solve the problem. (TNA)
