Thai PM to invite foreign investors to attend meeting

BANGKOK, January 26 (TNA) - Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra will invite foreign businessmen and investors to attend the World Economic Forum on East Asia which will be held in Thailand between this May 30 – June 1. She plans to invite foreign businessmen and investors to attend the meeting and invest in the kingdom, considered as gateway to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, while she attends the 42nd World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, on January 27 and 28. More than 2,500 government leaders and ranking businessmen are expected to attend the Davos meeting and exchange opinions on world economy as several member countries of the European Union are confronting economic difficulties. Yingluck is scheduled to discuss with several government leaders including the president of Switzerland and the prime minister of Pakistan during the Davos meeting. She also plans to confer with senior executives of several major private firms. Also, the Thai government has organised the Thai Night during the meeting in Davos, aimed at informing foreign investors what they would gain from investing in the kingdom. More than 400 foreign government leaders and ranking businessmen have already responded that they would attend the World Economic Forum on East Asia. The Thai prime minister believes that it is a good opportunity for her to explain to foreign businessmen during the meeting in Davos of her government’s policy on investment in Thailand after the country faced the massive flood late last year. She is expected to inform them the government’s plans to prevent flood from reoccurring in the country and at industrial estates as well as on water management plan for future so that foreign investors would have full confidence in investing in Thailand.
